New publication by Jakub Dostalek, Christoph Kleber, and Roger Hasler from LiST, titled “Surface plasmon resonance biosensor with anti-crossing modulation readout” in the journal Sensors and Actuators: B. Chemical.

This paper presents a novel approach to surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensors, simplifying the label-free monitoring of biomolecular interactions. By using anti-crossing surface plasmon modes along a thin metal film atop a tailored multi-periodic grating structure, the sensor eliminates the need for optical matching with a prism and avoids probing through the liquid sample. This method enhances sensitivity and versatility in detecting SPR changes due to biomolecular binding-induced refractive index variations. The sensor, compatible with standard SPR readers and using mass-producible UV-nanoimprint lithography, demonstrates its potential by effectively characterizing antibody interactions with the cancer biomarker CSPG4.
